Blown Away!!
Hi there earthquake explorers,
I have been exploring your blog and have to say you are all amazing scientists. I really liked learning about earthquakes and you all showed your understandings and knowledge so clearly. I can see you enjoyed your investigations and I really appreciated the way you shared your information with your classmates and Mr Dredge so frequently.
I must also say I am very impressed with your technology skills. The PowerPoint and video presentations are amazing. Your skills are very good and I am sure Mr Dredge will be patting you on the back for the way you have demonstrated your learning.
Good on you all for your hard work throughout the term.
Enjoy your break and I'll see you next term.
Miss Pearson

Hi Mr Dredge and Every one,
Here is an interesting fact about the Haiti Earthquake.
That between 217,000 and 230,000 people have died. That's very sad.
And more than 1,000,000 were left homeless.

Hi everyone
Yesterday at about 7:00 there was an earthquake in Port Phillip Bay . It was 3.2 on the Richter scale . Here is what one person said:
"I heard the roof of my house ... I thought there was either thunder or 15 possums up there," she said.
"I literally saw my feet move on my floor and I thought, 'gee that's definitely not possums, that's an earthquake'."
This is quite interesting point that this man put forward
"In Melbourne, quite rare. In Victoria as a whole we'd get an earthquake of this size about every six weeks," he said.

Hi everyone
Here is some information about the Haiti earthquake.
Hotel Montana (found in the Port-Au-Prince hills) collapsed and 200 people (mostly foreign holiday makers) were missing under the rubble.

Hi Everyone,
Here is some info about haiti and the earthquake there..
Between 10 and 15 kilometres below the surface the Caribbean plate and the North American plate transform or slid past each other. The energy released after the collision caused the Haiti earthquake. The earthquake happened in Haiti which is in the Caribbean Sea between North America and South America.
It is an island that has an area of about 27 750 square kilometres.
The epicentre of the earthquake was about 25 kilometres South West of the capital city Port-Au-Prince.
January 12, 2010
4:53pm
Tuesday
Disastrous-the ground is badly cracked and many buildings are severely damaged or destroyed. Some landslide may happen.
The earthquake costs 8 billion dollars of damage.
250 000 homes and business buildings destroyed or severely damaged.
Cheers Tania

On Dec. 26, 2004, a massive underwater earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale rattled the Earth off the coast of Indonesia's Sumatra Island. This devastating earthquake caused a tsunami. The death toll reached higher than 220,000, and many communities suffered disastrous damage to their homes/buildings. How amazing does this look!!

Here is some did you know facts:There are thousands of small earthquakes every year.People don't notice them.
Special dogs are used to help find people after a bad earthquake.
An earthquake usually lasts for less than one minute!!!

Hello Everyone,
I asked my dad if he had ever been in an earthquake and he said yes!!
There was a earthquake here and dad was all alone. He said he didn't know what was happening!!
Then he said it might of been from the Tennant Creek earthquake cause it was at the same time!!
Cheers Tania

Seismic waves are caused by the sudden break of a rock. They are energy that goes through the earth and is recorded seismographs.

This graph is showing that Australia has earthquakes from October 2008 to November 2008 and so does the Neighbouring Countries. It also shows us the amount of earthquakes, the magnitude of the earthquakes and how many happen at the same magnitude. I have added keys to show which ones are Neighbouring countries and Australia.

Hi Mr Dredge and Everyone,
Here is my seismograph.
You can see how at first there is no Earthquake and then there is a little bit of shaking and then it shakes a lot and then it stops.
One photo is of a little bit of the Earthquake when it was the worst and the other photo is of the whole lot of it.
Hope you like it.

the reason why i have put them in that particular spot is because some countries go write through the boundaries.

Hello Everyone,
Here is my map of the world.
My map shows where I think earthquakes happen.
I think that earthquakes happen along or close to fault lines. It seems that at present the most pressure is building up along the pacific plate boundaries and when this pressure is released an earthquake occurs.
Cheers Tania

Hello Everyone,
Here is some info about my graph.
The graph shows how many earthquakes were in Australia between October and November 2008 as well as the magnitude.
The graph also shows how many earthquakes were in neighbouring countries for the same period showing the magnitude.
The neighbouring countries had earthquakes that registered 5 or more on the Richter scale where as in Australia they were 4.2 or below. I think the reason for this is that neighbouring countries are closer to the fault lines, so more pressure builds up when two plates move past each other. An earthquake with a magnitude of 5 or more happens when this pressure is released.
Hope you like it.
Cheers Tania

Hi Mr Dredge and Everyone,
Here is my description on my excel graph.
You can see that Australia is blue and neighbouring countries are maroon. As you can see Australia has had lots of Earthquakes which measured between 2.0 and 2.9 on the Richter Scale. Neighbouring countries have not had any Earthquakes that have measured below 5.0 on the Richter Scale! It is lucky Australia doesn’t get many big Earthquakes.

Hi everyone!
Here is my graph for earthquakes in Australia and neighbouring countries.
This graph shows the magnitude of Australian and neighbouring countries earthquakes during October to November 2008. As you can see, Australia’s neighbouring countries get much bigger earthquakes than Australia itself. This is because most of Australia’s neighbouring countries lie on the edge of tectonic plates, where two plates meet and most earthquakes occur.
Have a nice day,
Mitchell

A volcano in Southern Iceland erupted yesterday (21 Mar 2010) after a week of small earthquakes! It is the 1st time the volcano has erupted in 190 years!
It is near the Eyjafallajokull glacier (I'll type it and you can try to say it!!!) and they are worried that it will melt the glacier and cause floods.
